As a part of the festival you will be provide with 1-2 performances in NYC and/ or in Texas. Both performances will offer a state of the art theater, professional lighting, and publicity.
Choreographers participating in the Houston Metro area will be provided the opportunity to teach a master class at Sam Houston University as a part of the festival. These classes will be compensated. A panel of judges will select 6-8 artists based on their work experience to teach these classes.
Select choreographers participating in the NYC festival will be given the opportunity to teach master classes as well. These classes will be compensated. Artists will be selected based on their work experience and class descriptions.
If you are considered for Level UP, you will be contacted by the Artistic Director and a meeting will be set up to discuss details.
**Work will be considered for all of our festival performances unless otherwise specified. If you are selected to participate, the directors will let you know which event your work has been chosen for.**

Ardsley House Choreographic Residency
Opens: January 10
Deadline: February 29
$25 fee
Three years ago the Dance Gallery Festival partnered with the Catskills Art Society (CAS) to offer two choreographers a three-day residency in the picturesque mountains of the Catskills, New York. The residency takes place in and around the CAS art galleries of Livingston Manor, New York, about 100 miles north of Manhattan. The selected artists work in open rehearsals, teach community classes, and the residency culminates with a free performance at the Beaverkill Valley Inn. The finished works are later performed during the festival in NYC.

Artists selected for this residency receive the following:
- 18-20 hours of rehearsal space
- Opportunity to teach a community class
- Informal in-process showing at the Beaverkill Valley Inn
- Transportation for 3 (choreographer + 2 dancers) from NYC to the Catskills
- Lodging and meals

This residency program is open to submissions. Interested artists should submit a proposal for a new work to premiere at the Festival in NYC this fall. The work should not exceed 15 min in length. The two selected artists can each bring up to 2 dancers to the residency.

Resident Choreographer for Sam Houston State University
Opens: February 1
Deadline (EXTENDED): April 20
$25 fee
Eleven years ago the Dance Gallery Festival partnered with Sam Houston State University to offer a Texas experience for choreographers, dancers, students, and the community. In addition to the public performances, and master classes for the students of SHSU, our partnership includes a choreographic residency program for 1-2 choreographers each year. This residency offers the opportunity for dance makers to create a new work on SHSU dance majors. Selected choreographers will spend a week with a cast of dancers to create a 10-15-minute original dance work and teach master classes to the student body.
This choreographic opportunity includes the following:
- 15 -20 hours of rehearsal time over the 7-10 day long residency
- Cast of talented dancers
- Costume and lighting/tech design support from SHSU Dance designers
- A $2,000 choreographic/teaching stipend
- Paid airfare and housing

Past Choreographic Residency artists for this opportunity have been selected from Dance Gallery alumni. This year the application process will be open to the public to cultivate more creative opportunities for dance choreographers. Past Dance Gallery residency artists include: Gabrielle Lamb, Sidra Bell, Maurice Causey, Mike Esperanza, Rohan Bhargava, Enzo Celli, to name a few.
