Spring Residency

The Ardsley Choreographic residency is a week long, all-inclusive residency in collaboration with Catskill Art Space in Livingston Manor, NY - offering travel from NYC, accommodations, rehearsal space, stipend, and a community showing at the end. Artists selected for this residency are invited to present the finished work at the Dance Gallery Festival. The residency will include in a showing of work followed by a Q&A with the choreographer.  


The Details 

A week long residency in Livingston Manor, NY from May 18-25, 2025 including: 

  • $3000 Artist stipend 

  • Exclusive access to a 1600 square-foot rehearsal space for the entire week 

  • Housing near downtown Livingston Manor 

  • Transportation from NYC to Livingston Manor 

  • Invitation to show the work at a future Dance Gallery Festival in NYC 

  • If desired, mentorship and feedback during the residency can be provided 


The selected artist will be asked to have: 

Community classes for the local elementary school 

Open rehearsals through out the week 

Residency showing May 24th (30-40 mins of material, can include rep in addition to work made during the residency) + Q&A 


Interested choreographers should provide 1-2 works that best represent you as a choreographer, a written proposal for the residency, and a personal statement. You will need to upload a PDF of your proposal and personal statement. The personal statement should be no more than one page, answering the following questions:


  1. What is your character and work ethic?

  2. Why are you in need of a residency at this stage?

  3. How could this residency serve your future aspirations as a dance maker?


We will announce 3 finalists a week after the application deadline and those finalists will have an interview with the Artistic Director (to be scheduled either in-person or via Zoom the week of March 10th) before we select the residency recipient by March 17th. Finalists will be contacted by email.


A few things to note 

  • Applying artists and company need to be available at the dates of the residency. The dates are not flexible. 

  • Solos and duets are not eligible for this residency. Works with 3+ dancers will be considered.

  • Previous Ardsley recipients need to wait two years before re-applying. 


NEW! Summer Weekend Residency

We are excited to offer a second residency later this summer for 3 artists who are just starting to develop a new work. This will be a weekend residency for choreographers who are at the early stages of a new work. Each choreographer will be allowed to bring one dancer. The Ardsley Summer residency is a weekend residency in collaboration with Catskill Art Space in Livingston Manor, NY - offering travel from NYC, accommodations, rehearsal space, per diem, and a talk-back at the end. 


The Details 

A weekend residency in Livingston Manor, NY, at the end of August 2025 (Dates TBC). 

Tentative Schedule (subject to change):

  • Thursday night - arrival & welcome

  • Friday - studio space available

  • Saturday - studio space available

  • Sunday - studio space available in the morning, talk back 3-4pm, then travel back to NYC

About the Artist

Madison Hicks holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and an MFA in Choreography from California Institute of the Arts. She is the Director and Founder of The Moving Forward Collective where she presents original work by herself and her collaborators. She has received choreographic residencies at Orsolina28, 14StreetY, Chez Bushwick, DanceLabNY, and was a Jacob’s Pillow Ann and Weston Hicks Choreographic Fellow. Madison has been commissioned by universities such as Loyola Marymount, The Fordham Ailey BFA program, Peabody University, University of Texas, and Wayne State University. She has also been commissioned by companies such as Vitacca Ballet, Ballet Arkansas, Avant Chamber Ballet, Mash-Up Contemporary Dance company, Ballet Project OC, and Water Street Dance Milwaukee. Most recently, she worked alongside Tony Yazbeck and Chip Abbott as Associate Choreographer for Manhattan Concert Production’s Children of Eden at Lincoln Center.
